“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
–Mary Oliver
More than a decade into my freelance writing and editing career, I am so excited to surround myself with words every day at Eloquent Inkblot LLC!
Anyone who knows me knows this career path wasn’t much of a surprise! My writing career began at age 18 as a high school senior, when I started interning at Bloom Magazine, my hometown’s culture and lifestyle publication. I went on to study journalism, Spanish, and religious studies at Indiana University, and continued to serve as an intern and editorial assistant at Bloom while I earned my degree.
During that time, I also worked as a Peer Writing Tutor at IU’s Writing Tutorial Services, sitting down with graduate and undergraduate students on a daily basis to work with them on essays, personal statements, application materials, and more. I found this work deeply rewarding, and through it I discovered a deep love of working with students as they uncovered an exciting truth: truly anyone can be a writer.
Also during my time at IU, I served as guest editor for Universal Media’s Council Journal in Dublin, Ireland, as editor-in-chief of 812: The Magazine of Southern Indiana, and as editor of By Our WTS newsletter. After graduating in 2019, I went on to work in marketing and outreach at The Media School at Indiana University, the Indiana Environmental Reporter, and Bloom, where I joined the staff full time as deputy editor in 2020.
In 2022, I took the exciting—and frightening—leap of going freelance full time. I opened a small marketing agency called HoneyBell Media with a friend, and enjoyed two years of working on websites, social media, newsletters, and much more with small businesses and nonprofits in Indianapolis, Indiana, and beyond. Soon, however, I found myself called back to writing and editing, which remain two of the greatest loves of my life. In 2024, I pivoted to full-time freelance writing and editing, founded Eloquent Inkblot LLC, earned my editing certifications from the Editorial Freelancers Association, and discovered a path that brings me sincere joy each and every day.
As the founder of Eloquent Inkblot, I have two primary professional paths. As a freelance writer, I work with fabulous clients from a variety of backgrounds, including the arts/entertainment, environmental, and small business industries, to produce freelance journalism articles, newsletters, blogs, social media and website content, and other written materials. As a freelance editor, I work with both debut and experienced authors on everything from short stories to novellas to full-length manuscripts, primarily in the fantasy, romance, and romantasy genres. (However, I’m happy to work with most genres and always love discovering something new!) I also offer writing coaching services for authors who need someone in their corner as they navigate the long, winding road between outline (or lack thereof, if you’re anything like me) and publication!
Both paths are exciting ways to work with words, people, and the art of telling stories. I feel so lucky to do this work every day!
